Liz Harrison

Demolition
4 hour looped video 2007
Installation view: 'Isobar'
Fieldgate Gallery, London

Liz Harrison's practice spans a broad range of eclectic media utilising the sculptural form and architectural space with light, illusion and lens based projections. The work is often site-specific .Her work seeks to define and articulate ideas about space, mapping traces of human activity and presence; visual narratives inherent in the work, explore disparate sites as the home, the city, the countryside, The questions raised and explored through installation concern contemporary issues that are particularly relevant to the urban environment. The tentative relationship that individuals have with their surroundings, the everyday repetitious, mundane habitual activities that are our makeup, colour and form our perceptions.

Liz Harrison was educated at Manchester College of Art and Design and the Slade School of Fine Art. She went on to exhibit at the ICA, the Serpentine, and the Whitechapel Art Gallery and has continued to exhibit nationally and internationally.. She taught at Camberwell College of Arts from 1987-2008, and has broad experience of teaching at art institutions across the UK, including Middlesex, Manchester Metropolitan and West Surrey Universities.

Lou Smith works in the fine art disciplines of painting and photography. Her paintings evoke the spiritual realisation of colour through the intensity of rich layers of paint, staining the canvas again and again.

As a photographer Lou Smith works in collaboration with her partner of over 36 years, Ron Smith. The smithnsmith partnership explores ways of seeing through the dynamics of stills and movies.
